Misspellings

Village Miracle’s Glow Dims Under an Ex-Spy’s Glare
Adapted from Krasnooktyabrsk Journal
Words burn across his skin
Letters  whorl around a tiny leg
The name of God hides behind his ear

From a rusty rash
words emerge
أنا العبد الله
“I am a slave of God” emblazoned on a newly born chin
من الحزن يأتي الخلاص
“From grief comes deliverance” stains the baby’s back
الإمام
“Imam” marks his forehead

Words made with red wine and henna
Or the hand of God
But why would God have misspellings?
