Flood waters long clear,
Death still drowns boys
On the streets of New Orleans
Both killers and victims,
Young black men,
More likely to be shot in school
Than in Afghanistan
After Cafe Au Lait and Beignet,
On Cobblestone streets,
In gardens bordered in wrought iron,
To the beat of brassy jazz bands,
Bodies afloat in receding waters
