We saw the flames
Smelled noxious smoke
Then a blur of doctors and nurses flew past
A flurry of white robes, scuffling shoes, beepers, and then, silence
We, the broken,
Armed only with respirators and feeding tubes,
Left to wait for fire to reach our hospital beds
